As parents begin their childcare journey, many have relied on early morning deliveries for essential items like diapers and wet wipes. However, concerns are growing among consumers following the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) delivery workers unions push for a ban on early morning deliveries as part of their campaign for improved working conditions for delivery drivers. It is estimated that around 20 million people utilize early morning delivery services, leading to widespread calls to ensure this essential service continues without interruption.

According to reports from the delivery industry and political sectors, the KCTU proposed a plan to restrict nighttime deliveries during late hours (12 AM to 5 AM) at a social dialogue meeting organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 22nd. This effectively suggests a ban on early morning deliveries.

The social dialogue committee, which includes the KCTU and the ruling Democratic Party, is expected to finalize measures to prevent overwork-related deaths by the end of the year after gathering opinions from various stakeholders. Although the committee does not have legal binding power, it has previously established work hour limits for major delivery companies, influenced by the KCTU.

The concerns raised by the KCTU have been taken seriously in past negotiations; in 2021, the union and political entities met to derive a social agreement which set working hours within 12 hours per day and 60 hours per week for delivery services.

Therefore, the current proposal for a ban on early morning deliveries appears to have significant potential for actualization. This has prompted an outpouring of frustration and concern, especially among working mothers and homemakers who frequent major parenting online communities.

One user expressed their frustration, stating, "What am I supposed to do if I finish work after 11 PM and have no time to shop? Without early morning deliveries, what options do I have?" As discussions continue, the balance between the welfare of delivery workers and the needs of consumers remains a critical issue.
