Won Minkyoung, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family in South Korea, stated that "the area where men feel the most discrimination is likely related to military service." She further explained that from the 29th of this month, a series of pilot concert-style public forums will be organized over five sessions to hear about the specific points where young men feel disadvantaged. In light of the recent Cambodian crime syndicate incident, she acknowledged the lack of a smooth support cooperation system for overseas human trafficking and pledged to strengthen policies to prevent such victimization.

During her first press briefing held in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 23rd, Minister Won expressed, "We will gather opinions from young people in a pilot concert format," while emphasizing a thorough investigation into the factors that young men perceive as reverse discrimination, including military service. Previously, President Lee Jae-myung had mentioned the issue of male reverse discrimination and requested an examination of specific areas where men face discrimination, along with the development of countermeasures.

In response, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family recently established the Gender Equality Planning Division, which will be responsible for investigating and analyzing issues related to male reverse discrimination. Some critics have pointed out that this focus on male reverse discrimination might overshadow the structural discrimination faced by women.

Minister Won acknowledged the concerns surrounding this new division, stating, "I understand that many people have worries. However, we are the only department that deals with reverse discrimination issues." She clarified that the ministry would not neglect gender discrimination issues while addressing male reverse discrimination, asserting, "We are not merely pretending to address the problems of young men."

Regarding the recent Cambodian crime syndicate incident, she noted, "This incident is not new; it has been ongoing for several years. We have focused so much on domestic human trafficking that it seems we have been unable to respond adequately to overseas human trafficking."

Through these initiatives, the Ministry aims to balance the discussions around discrimination faced by both men and women while ensuring effective policies are in place to combat human trafficking.
