Former Adore CEO Min Hee-jin Establishes New Entertainment Agency Amid NewJeans Contract Dispute
As a verdict approaches in the contract dispute between the group NewJeans and their agency Adore, former Adore CEO Min Hee-jin, often referred to as NewJeans mom, has established a new entertainment agency.
On the 24th, reports from Sports Today News revealed that Min has founded a new agency named OK and completed the corporate registration on the 16th of this month.
The agencys business objectives include artist management, music production, record production, music and record distribution, event planning and production, as well as brand management. Min Hee-jin has been listed as an internal director of the new agency.
This marks the first time Mins activities following her departure from Adore have been formally disclosed.
NewJeans held an emergency press conference on November 28 last year, declaring their intention to leave Adore due to unaddressed grievances. They announced that their exclusive contracts would be terminated at midnight on November 29, 2024, and they would pursue independent activities.
The members of NewJeans attempted to operate under a new team name, NJZ, but ultimately the efforts were unsuccessful. The members likened themselves to victims of school bullying and compared Adore and its parent company HYBE to an abusive father and a perpetrator of school violence, respectively, stating they could no longer continue with them.
However, following a court ruling that granted a preliminary injunction to maintain the status of the agency and prohibit the signing of advertisement contracts, all commercial activities, including music performances and broadcasts, have been halted without Adores consent. The court ruled that if the NewJeans members were to engage in independent activities, they would be liable to pay 1 billion won per person for each occurrence.
With their path to independent activities blocked, the NewJeans members have only sporadically shared updates via social media, except when appearing in court.
