Biotech and Semiconductor Stocks Show Strong Gains Ahead of Market Opening

On the 9th, biotech and semiconductor stocks are displaying a noticeable upward trend ahead of the regular market opening. The surge in semiconductor stocks is particularly concentrated in companies related to glass substrates.
LNC Bio, a biotech firm listed on the KOSDAQ, is trading at 80,400 KRW, up 19.82% as of 8:40 AM during the Next Trade pre-market session. The increased expectations for interest rate cuts from the U.S. are interpreted as a driving force behind the buying spree in biotech stocks, which are a key beneficiary sector.
Other biotech companies are also seeing gains, with Syntekabio rising by 6.35% and Selvas Healthcare by 5.13%. Additionally, OMT Therapeutics has increased by 4.68%, while E&Cell is up 4.54% during trading.
Altogen, the leading KOSDAQ company by market capitalization, which held an extraordinary general meeting the previous day and decided to move to the KOSPI, is trading at 467,000 KRW, up 1.74% in the pre-market.
Among semiconductor stocks, those related to glass substrates are particularly on the rise. Hanbit Laser has increased by 8.92%, followed by Philoptics at 5.45%, YCKem at 3.81%, and JNTC at 3.26%.
In the secondary battery value chain, some companies are also experiencing gains. Cheonbo, a supplier and producer of electrolytes, is trading at 71,600 KRW, up 5.29%.
Samsung Electronics is currently trading at 109,800 KRW, up 0.27%. On the other hand, SK Hynix, which rose 6% the previous day on the news of potential ADR listings in the U.S., is trading down 1.21% at 570,000 KRW.
