Ballerina Kang Hyo-jeong: A Lifelong Love for Ballet

Despite disliking the way she dances, ballerina Kang Hyo-jeong (40) has never had a moment where she disliked ballet. During an interview on the 21st at a rehearsal studio in Seouls Nodeul Island, she openly confessed her love for the art form. Since starting ballet at the age of seven, she has trained herself on stage and continues to embrace ballet with her whole body. "Even now, I learn about life through ballet. When I was younger, my focus was on perfecting my technique. Now, I think about how to convey my sincerity to the audience who come to watch my performances," she shared.
Currently active with the Semperoper Ballet in Dresden, Germany, Kang Hyo-jeong will take the stage as a guest principal dancer in the Seoul City Ballets double bill performance of Heo Yong-soon X Hans van Manen from October 30 to November 2. It is significant that she is performing in Under the Trees Voices, a new piece choreographed by Korean-born choreographer Heo Yong-soon, who is also a master at the Semperoper Ballet. "I have known Heo Yong-soon for a long time, but this is our first collaboration. Starting this season, I will be working in the same company, which opens up opportunities for more collaborations in the future," she explained.
Under the Trees Voices is a lyrical piece choreographed to the Symphony No. 2 by Italian composer and conductor Ezio Bosso. After its premiere with the Augsburg Ballet in Germany in 2024, it will be introduced in Seoul just a year later. Kang Hyo-jeong mentioned, "I will play the role of Alba Pariteri, a partner who symbolizes Ezio Bosso and has had a significant impact on his life. It will be the first time contemporary ballet in a full-length work is presented to domestic audiences, and I want to show a delicate inner performance."
