Cellist Lee Yoo-bin has won the Yun Isang International Music Competition this year. On the 9th, the Tongyeong International Music Foundation announced that Lee Yoo-bin became the first-place winner after performing Shostakovichs Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Tongyeong Festival Orchestra, conducted by Leosie Svarovski, at the finals held at the Tongyeong Concert Hall.

In her acceptance speech, Lee expressed her joy, stating, "I am happy to receive this honorable award," and added, "I learned a lot from all the participants in the competition and extend my respect to everyone." On that day, she also won the UNESCO Creative City of Music Special Award, which is determined by audience votes.

Lee Yoo-bin started learning the cello at the age of five, influenced by her mother, who was a cellist. After graduating from the Yewon School, she completed the Korean Arts Gifted Education Center and graduated early from the Korea National University of Arts. She is currently pursuing her masters degree at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin.

The second place was awarded to Lee Jae-ri, a student at the Seoul Arts High School, while third place went to Andrew Il-hoon Byun from Canada, and fourth place was taken by Choi Ah-hyun. Lee Jae-ri received the Park Seong-yong Gifted Special Award, which is given to promising Korean performers, while Andrew Il-hoon Byun was honored with the Yun Isang Special Award for his exceptional interpretation of Yun Isangs work. He performed Space I for Cello and Piano by Yun Isang.

The winners will also hold a commemorative concert at the Gwangju Arts Center on the 9th. The Yun Isang International Music Competition, established in 2003, honors the music of the world-renowned composer Yun Isang and aims to discover and nurture the next generation of promising musicians. The competition is held annually in the categories of cello, piano, and violin. Previous winners include pianist Lim Yoon-chan and cellist Han Jae-min.
