S.E.S Member Bada Reveals Struggles Before Fame on Documentary Table

Bada, a member of the popular girl group S.E.S, shared her harrowing experiences with poverty before her debut during a recent appearance on Channel As Documentary Table for Four. She was joined by her fellow S.E.S member Eugene, Brian from the group Fly to the Sky, and broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.
Recalling her difficult childhood, Bada mentioned her father, a traditional pansori singer, and the hardships the family faced after he fell ill. She said, "When my dad got sick, our home life became very difficult. Before that, I attended a private kindergarten with a swimming pool." She went on to explain that her father, facing a terminal illness, decided to stop taking medication due to its high cost. The family then moved to the countryside, where they unfortunately fell victim to a rental scam. "In the end, we ended up living in a prefabricated building," she revealed.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Bada pursued her dream of becoming a singer and enrolled at Anyang Arts High School. She shared that her parents were initially against the idea due to the high tuition fees. "My parents asked me twice if I could reconsider. They discouraged me when I was applying and even when I got accepted," she recalled. However, Bada insisted on following her passion, stating, "I had never gone against my parents wishes before, but this time I stood my ground. I believed I could be the best."
In her quest to earn her tuition, Bada witnessed her father performing on stage despite his illness. "Seeing my dad go out wearing straw shoes made me think, I have to succeed no matter what," she said.
Bada also spoke about her mother, who worked in a hospital cafeteria and prepared herbal medicines to support the family during her husband’s illness. "The financial struggles continued right up until my debut," she added. She recounted how her manager brought her home for the first time during a holiday, a significant moment that highlighted her familys journey through hardship and the sacrifices they made for her dreams.
