Chinese Influencer Arrested for Involvement in Human Trafficking in Cambodia

A Chinese influencer, who had gone missing after traveling to Cambodia to meet her boyfriend, has been revealed to be involved in human trafficking activities locally. The influencer was arrested on charges of participating in an illegal human trafficking and online scam organization.
According to the Cambodia China Times on the 19th (local time), local police arrested 26-year-old Chinese woman Zhang Muxing on the 13th for her involvement in an illegal online human trafficking scam. The court issued an arrest warrant for Zhang on the 15th, and she is currently detained at the Bassac prison in Phnom Penh.
Local investigative authorities report that Zhang has been collaborating with a specialized organization for online scams and cross-border human trafficking crimes since last month. Anonymous sources indicated that some of the criminal proceeds had flowed into accounts under Zhangs name, as reported by the media.
Zhang, known by the name Sister Orange on social media, has 130,000 followers on Chinese social media platforms. She had stated earlier this month that she was leaving the country to meet her boyfriend, Brother Long, who operates a restaurant in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
From the 5th to the 11th of this month, she repeatedly commented on local social media, stating, "I am currently in Cambodia and have booked a flight to China on the 13th." However, she went missing after the 12th. Her family reported her disappearance to the authorities and sought assistance from diplomatic agencies, including the local embassy.
The area where she was reported missing is Sihanoukville, a coastal city in southwestern Cambodia. This location was previously in the news when a South Korean university student was found dead there in August. Following this incident, netizens have pointed to Sihanoukville as a hub for online scam organizations, raising concerns about the safety of individuals in the area, including Zhangs boyfriend, Brother Long.
