Granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder Arrested for Drug Charges After Fleeing Overseas

Hwang Hana, the 37-year-old granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, has been arrested by police after fleeing overseas amid drug-related allegations. The Gyeonggi Gwangmyeong police announced on the 24th that they have apprehended Hwang on suspicion of violating drug management laws and are currently investigating her case.
Hwang is accused of administering methamphetamine to two individuals, including acquaintances, in the affluent Gangnam area of Seoul in 2023. Police are investigating the specific circumstances of the alleged crime and whether there are any additional charges to be filed.
According to police reports, Hwang fled to Southeast Asia after becoming a target of investigation for this incident. It is believed she then illegally entered Cambodia and had been living there. Following an Interpol blue notice issued for her, Hwang expressed her willingness to voluntarily return, prompting police to initiate procedures to secure her custody.
The police coordinated with consular officials in Cambodia to take custody of Hwang. During her boarding process on a national airline, they executed the arrest warrant. Hwang arrived back in Korea at 7:50 AM and is currently being interrogated at the Gwangmyeong police station.
Hwang, who is known as the granddaughter of the Namyang Dairy founder, has also attracted public attention due to her past relationship with singer and actor Park Yoochun.
Previously, Hwang was indicted for using methamphetamine three times at her residence in Seoul in 2015, resulting in a one-year prison sentence with a two-year suspension in 2019. During her probation period, she was re-indicted for drug use and sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison.
Additionally, Hwang was implicated in a drug-related investigation involving the late actor Lee Seon-kyun in 2023, leading to her being charged for drug use once again.
