Police Seek Arrest Warrant for Hwang Hana, Granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder, in Drug Case

Hwang Hana, 37, the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy, has been arrested after fleeing abroad amid police investigations into drug charges. On the 25th, the police applied for a warrant for her arrest. Hwang is accused of administering methamphetamine to a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s at a friends house in Seouls Gangnam district in July 2023.
Currently detained at the police station, Hwang is expected to show herself to the media while being transported to court for a warrant review. This will be her first public appearance since she completed her sentence at the end of 2022 and participated in a cultural program.
Hwang is specifically charged with using a syringe to inject methamphetamine into two acquaintances in July 2023. The police indicated that further investigations are needed regarding the detailed criminal facts. They also plan to expand their investigation into how Hwang obtained the drugs and the distribution channels involved. Additionally, they will look into whether she committed any illegal acts while abroad.
Previously, Hwang fled to Thailand in December 2023 after becoming a target of police investigation for drug-related charges. The police requested an Interpol blue notice to locate her when they could no longer proceed with the investigation due to her overseas escape, and they invalidated her passport. It was reported that she then illegally entered Cambodia through undisclosed means.
Hwangs recent activities were covered by some entertainment media, and in October, reports emerged about her living a luxurious lifestyle in Cambodia. During this time, Hwangs lawyer expressed her intention to voluntarily return to South Korea, prompting the police to travel to Cambodia to take custody of her. They executed the arrest warrant onboard a national carrier at Phnom Penh International Airport.
As the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy and with connections to singer and actor Park Yoochun, Hwang Hanas case has garnered significant public attention.
