Police to Seek Arrest Warrant for Hwang Hana, Granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder, in Drug Case
Hwang Hana, the 37-year-old granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy, has been arrested after fleeing abroad amid drug-related allegations. The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for her and will also investigate any illegal activities she may have committed during her overseas escape.
On the 25th, the Gwacheon Police Department announced that they would be seeking an arrest warrant for Hwang on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. A preliminary hearing for the suspect is expected to take place as early as the 26th.
Hwang is accused of administering methamphetamine to two acquaintances using a syringe in Gangnam, Seoul, in July 2023. Facing drug charges, Hwang fled to Thailand in December 2023.
Due to Hwang’s overseas escape, the police were unable to continue their investigation. In May of last year, they requested an Interpol Blue Notice (to locate her) and took steps to invalidate her passport. Reports suggest that she illegally entered Cambodia by unknown means and had been living there.
In October, some entertainment media reported that Hwang was living a luxurious life in Cambodia. Recently, however, she expressed her intention to voluntarily return through her lawyer, leading the police to travel to Cambodia, where they took custody of her and executed the arrest warrant onboard a national carrier at Phnom Penh International Airport.
Hwang is not only known as the granddaughter of the Namyang Dairy founder but also gained notoriety as a former partner of singer and actor Park Yoochun. She was previously indicted in 2015 for using methamphetamine three times at her home in Seoul, receiving a one-year prison sentence with a two-year probation in 2019. She was later indicted again for using drugs during her probation period and was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.
