President Lee Jae-myung Thanks Cambodia for Supporting Korean Nationals Amid Scam Crimes
On the 27th, President Lee Jae-myung met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and expressed gratitude for the Cambodian authorities special consideration towards South Korean citizens. He stated, "In South Korea, our citizens are very sensitive due to scam crimes," during a summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit.
President Lee remarked, "I believe that Cambodia and South Korea share a very special relationship." He continued to express appreciation for Cambodias consideration of South Korean expatriates and conveyed hopes for a new stage of cooperative relations between the two countries. He added, "I sincerely thank you on behalf of the people of South Korea for the warm hospitality shown during the recent visit of the South Korean delegation."
The President noted the brevity of their meeting due to a tight schedule during the multilateral talks, expressing his disappointment at the limited time available. He expressed hope for mutual visits and opportunities for deeper discussions in the future. He mentioned, "Cambodia and South Korea share many historical experiences. While South Korea is a step ahead, I believe Cambodia can also become a new model, and we will strive to contribute significantly to Cambodias development."
The bilateral meeting lasted approximately 30 minutes. In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the well-being of South Koreans in Cambodia is a top priority for him. He also referred to a recent unfortunate incident involving the death of a South Korean university student in Cambodia. He expressed his condolences and highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety and security of South Koreans residing in Cambodia.
