According to police reports, the investigation into this incident began after a missing persons report was filed in South Korea, confirming that a South Korean national was being held captive. Once the location of the captivity was identified, four South Korean police officers from the Korea Dedicated Team were dispatched to the Mondulkiri area to assess the scale of the crime syndicate, security arrangements, and potential escape routes.
Utilizing information accumulated through a multinational global cooperation operation called Breaking Chains, along with data from the National Intelligence Service and various investigative leads both domestically and internationally, authorities pinpointed the internal structure of the building and key access routes. Subsequently, a detailed operation plan was established in collaboration with the local police department in Mondulkiri, which included deploying surveillance personnel in the vicinity of the crime syndicate.
Originally, the joint operation was planned for December 20, but the schedule was expedited after signs of movement among the guards inside the facility were detected. In response to the urgent request from the Korea Dedicated Team, local police forces were deployed earlier than planned, leading to the successful rescue and apprehension.
During the investigation, police disclosed that this crime syndicate was previously apprehended earlier this month in the Poipet area of Cambodia.
