Son Heung-min, who has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, has become the second highest-paid player in the league, following soccer legend Lionel Messi of Inter Miami. According to the 2025 salary guide released by the MLS Players Association on the 30th, Sons base salary is set at $10,368,750 (approximately 14.76 billion KRW). This places him behind Messi, whose base salary is $12 million, making Son the second highest in MLS overall. The recent data reveals that only Messi and Son are earning more than $10 million in base salary within the league.

The MLS Players Association announced player salaries as of the 1st of this month, detailing both annual base salaries and average guaranteed compensation. The latter includes bonuses from signing fees and marketing, calculated on an annual basis. Performance bonuses based on players achievements have not been included in this report as their eligibility has yet to be confirmed.

In terms of average guaranteed compensation, Son ranks second with $11,152,852, again following Messi, who leads with $20,446,667. Notably, Los Angeles FC (LAFC) has reported total expenditures slightly exceeding $30 million, meaning Sons salary accounts for about one-third of the teams budget.

Son has been a standout player since joining Tottenham in the English Premier League (EPL) in 2015, where he became the leagues top scorer in 2022 and led his team to victory in the UEFA Europa League for the 2024-2025 season in May this year. He made a high-profile transfer to LAFC in August, shifting his professional career to the United States.

Since his arrival, Son has been treated as a superstar and has contributed significantly to the leagues popularity and marketing efforts, often being compared to Messi. The recent salary data further confirms that he is one of the top two players in the league alongside Messi.

In terms of salaries, the third place in both base salary and average guaranteed compensation is held by Sergio Busquets, a midfielder also playing for Inter Miami, who earns a base salary of $8,499,996.
