Seoul Ranks 10th Among the Worlds Most Attractive Travel Destinations
On April 4th (local time), CNN reported that Seoul has been ranked 10th among the Top 100 Cities in the World by Euromonitor International, a global data analytics firm. The ranking is based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as tourist numbers and tourism infrastructure.
Seoul has shown remarkable resilience in its ranking, rebounding from 16th place in 2016 to a low of 24th in 2018, and then rising to 14th in 2023. Last year, it climbed two spots to 12th, and this year, it has successfully entered the top 10.
In this years survey, Paris topped the list for the fifth consecutive year, benefiting from a surge in tourists due to the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral and events like the UEFA Champions League matches.
Madrid in Spain secured the second spot, while Tokyo, Japan, ranked third, achieving the highest position among Asian cities. CNN highlighted that Tokyo plans to double its passenger capacity by 2039 through the construction of a third runway at Narita International Airport and the expansion of the second runway.
Italy ranked fourth, followed by Milan in fifth place. New York was the only American city to make it to the top 10, coming in at sixth.
The list also included Amsterdam in the Netherlands (7th), Barcelona in Spain (8th), and Singapore (9th), rounding out the top 10.
London, which had fallen out of the top 10 last year to 13th place, continued its downward trend this year, dropping further to 18th. Although CNN noted that London ranked fourth in the tourism infrastructure category, it lagged in areas such as tourism policy, safety, and sustainability.
This year, Bangkok in Thailand emerged as the most visited city by international tourists, with an estimated 30.3 million visitors. Second place went to Hong Kong with 23.2 million visitors, followed by London with 22.7 million and Macau with 20.4 million.
