Korean Lawmaker Criticizes Governments Soft Stance on Chinas Illegal Activities

Jang Dong-hyuk, the representative of the People Power Party, directly criticized President Lee Jae-myung over the governments complacent response to Chinas illegal activities, asking, "Is President Lee still saying xie xie (thank you in Chinese) to China?"
During a Supreme Council meeting held on the 23rd, Jang stated, "Chinas quiet invasion is ongoing," pointing out, "President Lee has no qualms about using anti-American rhetoric, so why is he silent in front of China?"
He highlighted that since 2018, China has been unilaterally installing steel structures in the Yellow Sea without prior consultation, likening it to someone sneakily placing their belongings in another persons house, reassuring the homeowner, and gradually taking over the entire space. He criticized the government for its silence on these actions.
Jang also raised concerns over the issues of unrestricted real estate purchases by Chinese nationals, health insurance exploitation, and illegal residency, stating, "If the government neglects these problems, public distrust will only grow."
He then posed a question to President Lee: "Do you still believe that U.S. troops in Korea are necessary? Are you still saying xie xie to China?" He asserted that the government must firmly confront Chinas actions that infringe on South Koreas maritime sovereignty and the rights of its people, while also strengthening the ROK-U.S. alliance.
Meanwhile, the People Power Party has been increasing its rhetoric against China, recently proposing legislation to regulate the healthcare, election, and real estate issues related to Chinese nationals under a Three Major Shopping Ban law.
