Korea Prepares for APEC Summit with Confidence and Attention to Detail

On the 20th, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok met with reporters in Gyeongju, South Korea, just a week before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. He expressed confidence that Korea is well-prepared for the event, stating, "The major infrastructure projects are all completed. I believe that we are not lagging behind others in terms of infrastructure readiness. It feels like we have dressed the summit in a uniquely Korean attire."
During his visit, Prime Minister Kim inspected various facilities in the Bomun Tourism Complex, including accommodations for foreign leaders, the convention center where the summit will be held, and an economic exhibition prepared by the government and local businesses. He emphasized the importance of finalizing details, such as the sound system and the scent of the new Hawak Convention Center, to ensure a smooth experience for attendees.
Kim reflected on the short preparation time due to the new governments recent establishment, admitting he had visited Gyeongju eight times since taking office. He expressed optimism that not only the foreign leaders attending the summit but also various CEOs would feel comfortable and satisfied with the arrangements. He stated, "I believe that Korea has built solid capabilities and experiences through its diplomatic history. I hope that from the moment the leaders land at the airport, every aspect of their experience—from security to accommodations, food, and performances—will leave them in awe. This is what I mean by super-gap APEC."
To promote APEC, the Prime Minister revealed innovative ideas such as distributing welcome cards the size of business cards to incoming guests. These cards will feature QR codes that provide a brief history of APEC and introduce Korea to the visitors. Kims remarks underscore the meticulous preparations being made to showcase Koreas hospitality and organizational capabilities during this significant international event.
