Ryu Seung-ryong Expresses Excitement for TV Drama Return in Kim Manager

Actor Ryu Seung-ryong has shared his excitement and the changes he has experienced with his return to television drama after a long hiatus. During the production presentation for JTBCs new weekend drama Kim Manager, held on the 22nd at a hotel in Guro, Seoul, he remarked, "With pre-production becoming established, everything has changed completely. With the implementation of a 52-hour work week, I was able to focus more on filming."
Having previously worked on OTT platform series such as Netflixs Kingdom and Disney+s Moving, this marks Ryu Seung-ryongs first appearance in a broadcast drama since MBCs Personal Taste 15 years ago.
Kim Manager tells the story of Manager Kim, who lives a life comparable to others in terms of employment, promotion, home, and car. Manager Kim, who once believed he had a perfect life with a prestigious managerial position in a large corporation, a Seoul apartment, an understanding wife, and a proud son, begins to experience a gradual unraveling of everything he held dear. The drama is based on a popular web novel of the same name.
Ryu Seung-ryong has been cast in the title role as Kim Nak-soo. Nak-soo is a salesman with outstanding practical skills and sales expertise, having never missed a promotion since he joined the company. However, he begins to change as he notices a shift in his bosss gaze, finds himself overshadowed by younger colleagues, and is treated as an old-fashioned figure.
He commented on the changing landscape of television, saying, "With pre-production becoming established, everything has changed completely. The 52-hour work week allows me to focus more on filming."
Ryu also mentioned how the pressures regarding viewership ratings have shifted, noting, "While Kim Manager might focus on middle-aged stories, it speaks to someone’s experience..." His reflections highlight a blend of personal growth and the evolving nature of television production, offering insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by actors in todays entertainment industry.
