Actor Jeong Dong-hwan Expresses Grief for Late Comedian Jeon Yoo-seong and Senior Lee Soon-jae

Actor Jeong Dong-hwan expressed his feelings of longing for the late comedian Jeon Yoo-seong and his senior actor Lee Soon-jae, who has been a significant presence in his life.
On the 23rd, Jeong Dong-hwan attended the 2025 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony held at the Haeoreum Theater in the National Theater of Korea, which was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency.
Receiving the Order of Culture Merit, Jeong Dong-hwan shared, "It pains my heart that the comedian, with whom I performed theater long ago, is not here today. The teacher who always came to support my performances is also absent. I am the only one left to receive this award." His voice trembled with emotion as he struggled to continue speaking, clearly affected by the loss.
He recounted a challenging period, saying, "I wandered through hell for about three to four months while working on Dantes Divine Comedy. I played the role of Virgil, guiding Dante through hell and purgatory. Now, I feel like I have been called to a place that Virgil could not reach, which is paradise. This feels like my heaven right now."
Jeong Dong-hwan humbly attributed the honor to others, stating, "I don’t think I had any unique talent. This award should belong to the director, the staff, and the audience who accepted my performance."
He later reflected on his memories of Jeon Yoo-seong, recalling him as a "comedian with whom I performed theater long ago." Regarding Lee Soon-jae, he expressed gratitude, noting that Lee was always present to encourage him, even during lengthy performances such as The Brothers Karamazov, which lasts seven and a half hours.
Jeong Dong-hwan mentioned that Lee Soon-jae is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, highlighting the deep respect and affection he holds for his senior colleague.
