Kazakhstan Unveils Alatau City Project: Aiming to Become Singapore of Central Asia
The government of Kazakhstan has launched the first investment roadshow for its ambitious mega city project, Alatau City, aiming to establish it as the Singapore of Central Asia. The event took place on the 15th of the month in South Korea.
During a press conference, Sayasat Nurbek, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, stated, "Alatau City will be a testbed city where all technologies can be experimented and validated. Kazakhstan, known as the Switzerland of Asia, boasts a reliable investment environment."
Wong Hien Phine, a national project advisor for Alatau City, emphasized that the city will be the only place in the world where all new technologies can be tested. He noted, "From air and land transportation to new forms of communication and digital currencies, we will have the opportunity to experiment."
Dmitry Mun, Deputy Minister of AI and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, explained the choice to hold the first roadshow in South Korea, stating, "The Kazakh government aims to develop Alatau City into a smart city that integrates advanced technologies. We recognized South Koreas world-class capabilities in advanced technology and infrastructure, particularly its extensive experience in building smart cities."
Choi Yoori, Chairperson of the Caspian Group, shared that historical ties and trust were significant factors in choosing South Korea as the first investment partner. She noted, "Approximately 100,000 ethnic Koreans reside in Kazakhstan, forming a respected community since their forced relocation in 1937." Furthermore, she mentioned that one of Kazakhstans six billionaires, Kim Vecheslav, the chairman of the Caspian Bank, is also of Korean descent and currently supports financing and projects related to Alatau City.
The Alatau City project is set to be a groundbreaking initiative not only for Kazakhstan but for the entire region, positioning it as a hub for technological innovation and sustainable urban development. The Kazakh government is optimistic that this project will attract significant foreign investment and enhance the country’s global standing as a destination for cutting-edge technology integration.
