The Korean Professional Golf (KPGA) Tour has long been confined to a domestic competition structure, with courses, players, and fan bases limited to South Korea. However, the launch of the Genesis Championship in 2017 marked a turning point for the tour. From its inception, the tournament set prize money at the highest levels in the country, elevating the status of the tour. Additionally, winners were granted entry to the Genesis Scottish Open, co-hosted by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, opening new pathways for players to compete internationally. This is why Genesis is recognized not just as a sponsor but as a nurturer of the Korean mens golf ecosystem.

On the 26th, at the Woojeong Hills Country Club (par 71) in Cheonan, Chungnam, yet another Korean player was given the opportunity to compete abroad following the ninth Genesis Championship. Lee Jung-hwan, known as Iron Man, clinched a dramatic victory by shooting an impressive 7-under par on the final day. He finished the tournament with an overall score of 11-under 273, three strokes ahead of joint second-place finishers Nacho Elvira from Spain and Laurie Canter from England. Along with the winners prize of $680,000 (approximately 980 million KRW), Lee secured a two-year exemption on the DP World Tour and also won a Genesis luxury SUV, the GV80.

Starting the final round tied for 12th place, four strokes behind, Lee delivered a stunning performance, making eight birdies while only recording one bogey, crafting a comeback story for the ages. Having debuted on the KPGA Tour in 2010, this victory marks Lees third title on the KPGA Tour, his first since the Golfzon·DYB Education Tour Championship in November 2018, nearly six years ago. Furthermore, Lee becomes the eighth Korean player to win on the DP World Tour, joining the ranks of notable golfers such as Choi Kyung-ju, Yang Yong-eun, Noh Seung-yul, Jeong Yeon-jin, An Byeong-hun, Lee Soo-min, and Wang Jeung-hun.

With Lee Jung-hwans triumph at this tournament, he is set to receive additional benefits as the top-ranked player on the KPGA Tour for the upcoming year.
