Wadiz Reports Dramatic Surge in Game Crowdfunding, Driven by Board Games

Wadiz announced on the 24th that the transaction amount in the game category has surged approximately 12 times compared to the same period last year from July to October this year.
On an annual basis, the transaction amount increased by 307%, and the number of transactions rose by more than 102%, highlighting the significant expansion of crowdfunding in the gaming sector. Notably, board games accounted for 89% of the total transaction value in the game category.
This year, the number of applicants for notifications regarding board game-related projects reached 17,667, surpassing last years total for the entire game category, which was 17,470. The company explained that the high concentration of fandom and the strong pre-demand forecasts make board games particularly compatible with crowdfunding.
Half of the top 10 projects in the gaming sector this year were board games, with the top two projects achieving funding amounts in the hundreds of millions won.
The cooperative adventure board game "Agemonia," which launched on the 17th, garnered explosive responses, surpassing 500 million won in funding just one day after its opening. This game, rated 9.0 on the Board Game Rating (BCG), is a high-quality board game that combines storytelling and cooperative play, and despite its high price range of 300,000 to 500,000 won, the majority of the available quantity has already been sold out. The project is set to continue until the 31st.
Earlier in August, the Korean version of the globally popular IP "Cyberpunk 2077" board game was released independently, achieving a cumulative funding of 330 million won. The strategy of targeting the IP fandom by adding a crowdfunding limited edition proved to be effective.
A Wadiz representative stated, "Wadiz encompasses not only the existing board game fandom but also potential users exploring new tastes, contributing to a robust premium consumer group that actively engages with high-priced rewards. With a high average payment amount and a series of successful funding cases exceeding hundreds of millions, Wadiz is establishing itself as a premium launching platform in the board game market."
