Lee Jae-yoon Aims for First Win at KLPGAs Major Final Event

Lee Jae-yoon, a 6-year veteran of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) tour, has a chance to wash away the struggles of being an unknown player with his first career victory. This opportunity comes at the seasons final major tournament, the Sang Sang In & Hankyung WowNet Open, which boasts a winners prize of 216 million won and a total prize pool of 1.2 billion won.
On the 18th, Lee played the third round of the tournament at Lakewood Country Club in Yangju, where he recorded six birdies and two bogeys, finishing with a score of 4-under-par 68. With a three-day total of 9-under-par 207, he is tied for third place with Hong Jung-min and Park Bo-gyeom, just two strokes behind the solo leader Lee Yu-rin, who sits at 11-under-par 205.
Born in 2000, Lee made his debut on the regular tour in 2020 but has remained largely under the radar. Despite being in his sixth year, he mostly competed on the Dream Tour (the second division). In his rookie year, he finished 114th in the KLPGA tour money rankings, leading to participation in the seed competition where he placed 73rd and lost his tour card. After a successful year last year on the Dream Tour, where he secured one victory and ranked 6th in earnings, he regained his card for the regular tour, making this his second official season.
Lee has expressed that he feels he has improved significantly in his golf skills this season, a sentiment supported by his performance statistics. He has competed in 26 events this season, making the cut 15 times and achieving two top-10 finishes. Last month, he reached a personal best by finishing tied for third in the major event, the KB Financial Star Championship.
In his post-round interview, Lee remarked, "This season, Ive really felt that my golf is improving a lot. My short game, particularly around the greens with approach shots and long putts, has gotten better, leading to more good results." Currently ranked 39th in the money list, he is in a comfortable position regarding his tour card for next year.
