Zero Convenience Stores: The Trendy Choice for Health-Conscious Shoppers

On the 23rd, at the Zero Convenience Store Zero Store located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, 22-year-old Jang Ye-rin, a student from Ewha Womans University’s Dance Department, shared, "I often use Zero Convenience Stores. Since they have low calories, I feel less burdened. I visit about every 3 to 4 days."
Her friend, Park Dam-won, 21, who studies in the same department, added, "My friend eats ice cream while I tend to eat a lot of cookies. I’ve known about Zero Store for a while, but I’m glad it opened near our school. I don’t notice much difference in taste compared to regular products."
With increasing interest in dieting, sugar-free, and zero-calorie products, unmanned convenience stores specializing in low-sugar and low-calorie items are becoming a small trend. On the same day, a reporter visited Zero Convenience Stores (such as Zero Choice and Zero Store) near Hongdae and Ewha, where signs at the entrance read, "We’ve gathered ZERO snacks. Enjoy snacking without worries" and "A choice you can enjoy every day without burden."
The shelves were filled with hundreds of zero and low-sugar products, including sauces, powdered drinks, ready-to-eat meals, frozen foods, ice creams, instant rice, beverages, snacks, jelly, candy, protein cereals, and chicken breast hot dogs.
21-year-old In Seo-yeon, who visits at least once or twice a month, mentioned, "There are not only snacks but also convenient meals that can serve as a meal. Ive been consistently visiting since the Zero Convenience Store opened in my neighborhood."
One section of the store featured a sign encouraging customers to "compare freely with Coupang and Kurly."
20-year-old Choi Joo-ah commented, "I’m quite interested in dieting, so I visit here more than four times a week, especially for snacks."
As health and dietary awareness continues to rise, the popularity of convenience stores focusing on zero-calorie and low-sugar options is likely to grow, offering a guilt-free shopping experience for health-conscious consumers.
