Chinas Economic Development Plan for the Next Five Years Concluded at CPC Central Committee Meeting
The annual plenary session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which reviewed Chinas economic development plan for the next five years, concluded on the 23rd.
During this session, the fourth plenary meeting of the 20th Central Committee (20th Plenary Session) passed a proposal on the establishment of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, which was explained by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
The 20th Plenary Session set ambitious goals for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which begins next year, including significant achievements in high-quality development, a marked improvement in self-reliance and strength in science and technology, new breakthroughs in comprehensive and deepening reforms, a clear enhancement in social civilization, continuous improvement in the quality of life for the people, new and significant progress in building a beautiful China, and the strengthening of national security.
The plenary emphasized the need to strive for these goals over the next five years, aiming for a substantial increase in Chinas economic strength, scientific and technological capabilities, national defense power, comprehensive national power, and international influence by 2035. It aims for the per capita GDP to reach the level of moderately developed countries.
Furthermore, to achieve these objectives, the meeting called for adherence to the directions of smart, green, and integrated development while accelerating the construction of a manufacturing powerhouse, quality powerhouse, space powerhouse, transportation powerhouse, and network powerhouse. It also stressed the importance of maintaining a reasonable proportion of manufacturing and building a modern industrial system based on advanced manufacturing.
The 20th Plenary Session reiterated the Chinese authorities focus on the development of advanced industries and addressing domestic demand stagnation. The meeting emphasized strengthening original innovation and tackling core technologies, promoting the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation.
