KOSPI Surges Past 3600 Mark Amid Samsungs Earnings Surprise and US-China Tension Easing
On the 14th, the KOSPI index surged past the 3600 mark, driven by a surprising earnings report from Samsung Electronics and expectations of easing tensions between the U.S. and China.
The KOSPI opened at 3604.12, up 19.57 points (0.55%) from the previous trading day, and continued its upward trend, reaching an intraday high of 3617.86 before climbing to 3646.77.
The domestic market was buoyed by Samsungs third-quarter earnings surprise. The company reported an operating profit of 12.1 trillion won and sales of 86 trillion won, marking year-on-year increases of 31.8% and 8.7%, respectively.
As a result, both individual and foreign investors contributed to net buying, further propelling the index.
On the same day, the KOSDAQ index also opened higher, rising 4.88 points (0.57%) to start at 865.37, maintaining its upward momentum. Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate began trading at 1426.5 won, up 0.7 won from the previous trading day.
